Typical Malaysian
13:36There's a lot to love about Malay (my race) but like everything else, there's also the downfall. Keep in mind that this doesn't apply to all Malays but mostly those who are close minded and views society's opinion as what matter most. I'm not going to touch on many things but I'm going to touch on one to be specific, which is, skin tone.
Everyone is born with unique and different skin tones, some are in the light shades, some in the medium and some in the dark. Whatever colour we all naturally are, I believe that it's all our uniqueness and gives us our identity. It is something that we should be thankful about. In my opinion, black, white, brown or yellow, it all doesn't matter. It's just a colour. Eg: someone wearing black and someone wearing pink. The concept is the same. It's just a colour. What matters to me is what is deep down inside. You could be the fairest person on earth but have a dark heart, or vice versa.
However society doesn't put it that way. They don't get the fact that beauty is subjective and universal. Everyone is different and beautiful in their own ways. Society makes young girls (especially) want to change their skin colour just to fit in the crowd. To feel beautiful (on the outside) which now that is the only thing that they care about.
Going on to Malaysians or Malay in particular, we are blessed with nicely tan skin but we want to be white so bad, Same goes to the white, they're blessed to be fair but they want to be tan so bad. It's just not right. I get, do what makes you feel beautiful, yes but trust me, most of them do it because they feel beautiful that people think they're beautiful or they feel confident because society accepts them. As much as how cliche this may sound but I disagree because deep down inside we all know (girls especially) how hard it is to maintain's society's perfect model but still most of us do it because that is what everyone is doing. It's conformity in silence that you barely even notice.
It's sad to know that we (girls) have to do things to feel beautiful. Shouldn't we just stick to what we naturally are and be able to feel beautiful too?
There's so much work that needs to be done, so much money to spend on just to be beautiful (for people) and that's just wrong.
I've witnessed many people buying whitening products, harming their skin just to look beautiful on the outside not thinking of what the long term effects might be. These kids had been soaked deep in society's dark hole and these are the kinds that are easily influenced. If one of their friends discovered a way to be white (eg: using colgate on their face) trust me, other would do too. (I did an experiment on this, it actually happened)
So you see, people are trying hard to please others nowadays and we often compare ourselves with other people who we think are much more better than us in so many ways that we always forget that everyone is created differently and we all have different purposes in life. She may be good in some things and you may be good to others. It's not god to compare and make us feel small. (unless, you want to better yourself then yes, but I don't believe in pleasing society to live my life).
Now don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that you shouldn't make yourself beautiful or feel beautiful. Do as you please but you know yourself deep down who you're doing all this for. I know there are people who disagrees with me but everyone has their rights to have an opinion of their own on anything, and this is mine. However I'm still learning and if it's wrong, do correct me.
Adios, xoxo.
